What better reason is there to have a blog than going to China for a year. I hope to keep this blog updates (and not shut down by the government) during my year abroad in Shanghai. While there my job will be to teach English, but my goal is to learn Chinese and experience a new culture.
I have been telling people I'm not excited, because to be excited I have to know what will happen. The truth is I have no idea what Shanghai will be like, but i'm gunning to find out! It all started over the summer when a co-worker at my company mentioned that we were looking for English teachers in China. Well that got my mind-a-racing and next thing I knew I'd applied and accepted a job teaching as soon as I could get over there.
Well, the visa process was a little harder than I thought. Between my college degree not being in the proper language, to the government denying my first application because I didn't have enough English teaching experience (or ... any really), it took a few months longer than I though it would.
But thats all over with and I've got my visa stamped into my passport and my airline ticket for December 16th. I'm sad to miss Christmas '07, but the prospect of returning home for Christmas '08 was too good to pass up.
All thats left is the packing and good-bye's..... then its...
HELLO SHANGHAI!!
